Registry

While the Covid-19 pandemic did not postpone our wedding, nor will it postpone our summer honeymoon, it has given us reason to change our destination. We are still looking forward to driving to the Grand Canyon in the future, but our 2021 road trip will now be an East-Coast Road Trip!

We are lucky enough to already have nearly everything we need for this new chapter together! However, for friends and family who have expressed an interest, we have created a registry in order to give you the chance to contribute to our next adventure (the honeymoon trip).

Road Trip Overview

We are planning a road trip to the Grand Canyon!

One of the many views we are looking forward to!

We are planning to take two weeks to drive cross country (again)! In addition to spending some time at the Grand Canyon, some of the other highlights of our trip will include:

We love documenting our adventures (as the Farrell-Hill Lakeside Resort… On Wheels), so you can follow our trip along the way and see our stats afterwards; we’ll be sure to post them!

Our estimated route

Estimated Costs

The detailed information listed below is what our estimated costs will be based on the expenses from our previous road trip to Seattle (see pictures from that trip on the “Our Story” page). These are only estimates, and friends and family can feel free to gift as much or little as they desire (with no obligation to do so).

Preparation for the trip

Things we purchase before hitting the road.

  • Groceries:
    • Crystal Rose always makes sure there is enough to eat in the car, whether we need to eat a full meal on-the-go, or something to nibble on until we reach the next town.
    • Estimated costs: $300
  • Toiletries:
    • Not only the usual things like toothpaste and shampoo, but also things needed for travel-by-car, such as baby wipes and hand sanitizer.
    • Estimated costs: $50
  • Car preparation:
    • Getting the car ready for a 6,000 mile journey includes things like an oil change, tire rotation/balance, and an overall “health check”.
    • Estimated costs: $150

Road traveling

Expenses we incur along the road.

  • Gas:
    • On our last trip, we filled the tank about twice a day, and the average cost (from across the country) was $25 per each fill-up.
    • Estimated costs: $750
  • Tolls:
    • Connecticut may not charge tolls, but many other states in the country do. This is the price we pay for traveling the “open road”.
    • Estimated costs: $50
  • Road snacks:
    • Crystal Rose does prepare for a lot… but most of her car food is quite healthy. Every once in a while, we indulge in a pit-stop treat.
    • Estimated costs: $25
  • Car care:
    • Even with proper preparation, there are car costs along the way. The most frequent being car cleaning. Driving in open plains out west at twilight, you are bombarded with bugs. Stopping at the carwash to clean the windshield and headlights ensures safety first!
    • Estimated costs: $25

Accommodations

Where you sleep and what you eat greatly affects your mood on the road!

  • Hotels:
    • On our last trip, our average hotel cost per night was $125. This included the room, taxes, and fees. We are planning for 14 nights away from home for this trip.
    • Estimated costs: $1,750
  • Lunches:
    • Because we prepare for food-on-the-go, we don’t often need to stop for lunches. However, every few days it’s nice to stop and eat something hot and/or fresh for lunch.
    • Estimated costs: $150
  • Dinners:
    • Dinner is often the only meal we do not rush through for the day. Whether we get take-out to eat in our hotel room, or sit down at a restaurant, it is a nice end to our day before getting a good night’s rest.
    • Estimated costs: $600

The Sights!

While the adventure is all about the journey, we do stop and see the sights along the way!

  • Parking:
    • Yes, there are lots of places that will charge us for parking along the way. This might be parking in a town at a meter, or it might be a parking lot/garage for a “tourist trap” (that we just can’t pass up!).
    • Estimated costs: $50
  • Entrance fees:
    • We learned on the last trip that just about everything has an entrance costs. Whether we drove through (badlands), walked around (Hoh Rainforest), or just took a quick picture (Mount Rushmore). We aren’t sure where we’ll stop along the way, but we estimated our budget based on our previous trip.
    • Estimated costs: $125
  • Attraction tickets:
    • Even after you’ve paid to park and paid to get in, sometimes there that ONE extra thing that just makes the adventure dynamite (virtual bungee jumping off the Space Needle anyone)? We want to be sure we don’t miss out on any once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
    • Estimated costs: $75
  • Souvenirs:
    • We are minimalists when it comes to spending money on “keepsakes”, but we do enjoy bringing home an ornament or magnet from our adventures places.
    • Estimated costs: $50

Registry Form

This form is NOT a way to make direct payments. We wanted a fun, easy way for our friends and family to indicate which part(s) of our trip they would be most interested in contributing to, based on the outlined expenses above.

After submitting the form, you will see a message that says “Thank you; your response has been recorded!” There will also be a link which will bring you to a page with different options for sending a monetary gift.

You are not obligated to fill out the form in order to send us a gift; it is simply an easy way for you to let us know which specific expense you’d like to contribute to. Visit the Gifting Options Page to see the options of how to send your gift directly to Dave and Crystal Rose.
